Christmas Pole Vault Camp 2009

 

WHO can attend: Pole Vaulters: beginners, intermediates, advanced, boys, girls, old, young, elementary school, middle school, high school, college, post-college, masters, coaches, parents

 

WHAT takes place: Pole Vaulting! Beginners are taught how to pole vault, Intermediates are taught how to pole vault better, Advanced are taught how to maximize their ability. Drills, training, competition skills, pole selection, rules, and safety will all be covered.

 

WHERE is it: Lone Star Athletic & Training, 1985 FM 758, New Braunfels, TX, 78130. We have a 7000+ sq ft INDOOR/OUTDOOR training center with multiple runways and pits, gymnastics equipment, weights and other strength training equipment, separate bunkrooms for males and females, restrooms, offices, and a kitchen. All activities take place here.

 

WHEN is it: Camp begins on Sunday afternoon, December 27th at approximately 3pm. Prior to the camp, we will hold a pole vaulting competition in our gym that experienced campers are encouraged to participate in to aid the coaches in assessing their needs. The competition will start at 11am and finish approximately at 3pm. Camp will conclude at approximately 11am on Tuesday, December 29th.

HOW is camp done:

  • Drills in the sand, on the runway, on the pole vault pits, high bars, parallel bars, rings, rope, the Vaultmaster, the rope vault, A-Frame
  • LOTS of vaulting from short, medium, and long approach-runs
  • Video Analysis of Elite Vaulters
  • Side-by-Side Video Analysis of campers to elites
  • Hands-on practice of pole selection, taping, standard selection and adjustment, etc…
  • Lecture and Discussion of everything pole-vault-related

DETAILS:

  • Cost:
    • $300 for overnight campers (includes dinner on the the 27th, 3 meals on the 28th, and breakfast on the 29th as well as sleeping accommodations)
    • $225 for commuters (commuters are responsible for making al l their own eating and sleeping arrangements)
  • What to Bring: Campers will need to bring sleeping bags and pillow, bath towel and toiletries, workout clothes for all temperatures, tennis shoes, 1-2 rolls of athletic tape. Commuters need to have workout clothes for any/all temperatures and food if they are unable to drive. Optional items include poles, spikes, chalk or sticky spray, workout towel, snacks, games, books. We provide all poles and equipment.
  • Accommodations: We have 2 separate heated/air-conditioned bunk rooms that sleep 12 apiece. An adult same-sex chaperone will sleep in each room. We have a small kitchenette with a fridge and microwave and bring in food. Breakfast is continental (cereal, milk, oj, fruit, bagels, etc…), Lunch is sandwiches (deli meat, PB&J) chips, cookies, etc…, and Dinner is Texas BBQ and pizza. Bathrooms include shower facilities.
