Pole Vaulters and Parents,

First off, I want to congratulate all of our vaulters who participated in the USATF Junior Olympic National Championships in Humble last week.

Recent Wimberley grad Kally Long won the Women’s 17-18 year old division with a jump of 13’3.5”. Recent Canyon High grad Calie Spencer placed 9th with a vault of 12’3, and incoming Westlake senior Nicole Summersett placed 14th with a vault of 11’9. Bear in mind this was the National Championship and there were 50 girls in the competition.

In the Women’s 15-16 year old division incoming Alamo Heights sophomore Brooke Story jumped a near-PR 10’8 to place 13th out of 36. Her height was good enough for 8th place and All-American status had she cleared every height on a first attempt, however misses dropped her to 13th.

In the Men’s 15-16 year old division incoming Canyon High junior Bailey Henderson jumped a PR 14’71/4” to place 3rd out of 34.

Also this week was our final summer championship event, the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) State Games of Texas held at College Station High School. Once again, Kally Long took the Girls 17-18 championship win with a PR 13’7” to cap off a stellar senior year and summer series. Megan Hamilton jumped 9’6 in that same group, but results have not yet been published so I don’t know where she placed. In the Girls 15-16 division Canyon incoming sophomore Madeline Traugott jumped a PR-tying 9’6, and Wimberley incoming sophomore Haley Schake jumped 9’0, places unknown at this time.

Kally Long has been training at Lone Star since she was about 10 years old and has become interested in coaching. As I wrote last week in my email, I had planned on closing club practices until the last week of August. Kally has asked me if I would reopen practice with her at the helm until she leaves for college at UT on August 17th. We’ve worked out a schedule and will reopen practice tomorrow, Sunday, August 3rd from 6-8pm. August practice hours with Kally coaching will be:

Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays: 9am-Noon
Sundays: 6-8pm

I will resume coaching on the same schedule on Monday, August 18th through Sunday August 24th. From August 25th onward we will switch to our school-year hours of 4-7pm on weekdays, and Sundays from 3-5pm.

I will open up the online scheduler today… please schedule all practices online. If nobody schedules online for a particular practice, the coach will assume nobody is coming and not be at the gym.

Thanks,
Kris Allison
